Job Responsibilities:
- Develop, test and maintain 1D and 3D thermo-fluid models of components and systems involving gases, liquids and refrigerants for application in engine, powertrain and vehicle system simulations. Mathematical models are organized in libraries for representing various components such as engine cylinders, heat exchangers, pumps and turbo-machinery, acoustic elements, catalysts, etc. used by automotive and transportation industries.
- Refine model physics and numerical algorithms, to achieve the proper balance of numerical efficiency, accuracy and flexibility to meet customers’ product design requirements, and for optimal performance in the context of large-scale integrated simulations.
- Collaborate with other developers and application engineers on functional and I/O requirements, design of models and maintenance of user and theoretical manuals
Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering with strong thermal science background.
- 2 years of experience in modeling of one more of: reactive systems, heat engines, two-phase flow, flow noise
- Hands-on experience with numerical algorithms commonly used for the solution of computational fluid mechanics (1D and/or 3D) involving Linear and non-linear equations, ODEs, DAEs
- Proficiency in Fortran, C++
- Minimum GPA 3.6 across the graduate and undergraduate programs
Additional Desirable Background and Skills:
- Knowledge and experience in using commercial system simulation software (e.g. ML/SL, GT-SUITE)
- Participation in automotive industry and SAE sponsored student programs (e.g. Formula SAE, Mini Baja competitions)
- Familiarity in optimization methods, parameter, system identification and neural network methodologies
