Job Responsibilities
- Research, develop and test mathematical models of fluid and thermal system models in engine and powertrain systems, including fluid and thermodynamics with viscous and inviscid flow dynamics, heat transfer, thermophysical properties of gases and liquids.
- Develop algorithms for numerical computing to simulate reactive systems involving turbulent flows, diffusion and reaction kinetics, combustion processes, optimization of flow and thermal behavior, flame propagation in laminar and turbulent flows for internal combustion engines.
- Work to optimize flow and thermal behavior of engine components.
- Perform combustion and emissions modeling involving pre-mixed and diffusion flame, turbulent flame propagation.
- Perform laminar and turbulent flow analysis for internal combustion engines.
- Apply developed models to company’s licensed computer-aided engineering product used for the simulation, analysis and design of engines, powertrain and vehicle systems.
- Tools: GT-Suite, 1-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Fortran, C/C++, Python, Fluent, StarCD, Converge, ANSYS/Matlab, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, air flow, heat transfer, combustion, system modeling, HiL, SiL.
Requirements:
- PhD or ABD in Mechanical Engineering or Theoretical and Applied Mechanics
- 1 year of experience in the job offered or as a mechanical engineer or engineering intern or researcher or teaching assistant
- Must have previous fluids thermodynamics education/experience with:
- inviscid and viscous flows, turbulence, combustion and emissions modeling for premixed and diffusion flames
- developing models and algorithms for numerical simulation of combustion processes,
- optimization of flow and thermal behavior
- flame propagation in laminar and turbulent flows for internal combustion engines
