Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement and test numerical algorithms for optimization of flow and thermal analysis of automotive engines and engine subsystems, including viscous and inviscid flow dynamics, laminar and turbulent flow analysis.
- Work to optimize flow and thermal behavior of engine components using fluid and flow simulation, thermodynamics, computational flow analysis using finite-volume based spatial discretization, explicit/implicit time advancement, and adaptive mesh refinement, compressible and incompressible fluid dynamics, multiphase flow simulation and system modeling/optimization of engine components.
- Apply developed models to company’s licensed computer-aided engineering product used for the simulation, analysis and design of engines, powertrain and vehicle systems.
- Tools: 1-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), FLUENT, STAR-CD, STAR-CCM+; matrix solution, multi-grid acceleration, fluid mechanics, air flow, heat transfer, combustion, system modeling, bubble and bubble-cluster dynamic modeling, model reduction, Lattice-Botlzman methods, finite volume methods, C, C++, Fortran, MPI, Linux.
Requirements:
- PhD or ABD in Mechanical Engineering or Theoretical and Applied Mechanics
- 2 years of experience in the job offered or as a Mechanical Engineer or Researcher or Intern
- Must have previous experience/proficiency with:
- multiphase flow simulation and system modeling/optimization
- flow and thermal analysis of automotive engine/subsystems
- bubble-cluster dynamics
- CFD using finite-volume based spatial discretization, explicit/implicit time advancement, matrix solution, multi-grid acceleration, adaptive mesh refinement; model reduction, numerical algorithm development
