Senior Engineer – Vehicle, System Integration and Controls Development

Position Summary

We are looking for a creative, focused self-starter to work as a software developer in the area of system-level (complete) vehicle simulations, subsystem model integration and controls systems. You would join our mechanics development team and work in a collaborative development environment, on projects to develop models of complete vehicle systems, suitable for fast-running simulations and system optimization, and also subsystem-level or supervisory controls for such systems.   As GT maintains an integrated and multi-physics development approach, you will also collaborate with application engineers on product design, and with developers of other (e.g., thermal, electrical, flow, chemistry) domains on multi-physics solutions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, test, and maintain models of complete vehicles and also the underlying software architecture allowing seamless integration of vehicle subsystem models, including subsystem and supervisory controls, at varying level of detail.
  • Work, within the mature GT-SUITE platform and software architecture, on projects focused on continuous improvement of performance, scalability, user-experience aspects of solutions.
  • Test computational models in the context of integrated simulations of real-life systems aimed at addressing customers’ needs at different stages of their product development cycle.
  • Collaborate with other developers and application engineers on functional and I/O requirements and design of models. Adaptation of models to user requirements.

Education, Experience and Skills

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, with focus on design or optimization oriented computational modeling of vehicles and/or vehicle (powertrain, thermal management, electrical) subsystems.
  • A minimum of 2 years of academic or industry experience (4 years of industry experience for BS candidates) with computational modeling of vehicles, vehicle subsystems and supervisory controls, with focus on drive cycle and/or real driving fuel economy & emissions, subsystem evaluations, model integration, and subsystem or supervisory controls optimizations.
  • Experience with engineering programming languages such as Fortran, C, C++.
  • Experience or familiarity with the following is highly desirable:
    • – Powertrain and controls in conventional and electrified vehicles
    • – Control theory, optimal control theory
    • – Mathworks/Matlab and Simulink software
    • – Commercial/research tools for system-level vehicle simulation
    • – Data-based modeling (Neural networks, machine learning), meta-models
    • – Driving automation (AD, ADAS) technologies
