Job Responsibilities:
- Develop, test and maintain advanced mathematical models of machinery and mechanical components including kinematics, contact mechanics, rigid and flexible multi-body dynamics systems in engine, powertrain and vehicle systems, such as engine cranktrains, valvetrains, gear, chain and belt drive systems, vehicle drivelines and transmissions.
- Test computational models in the context of integrated simulations aimed at addressing customers’ product design, performance and durability issues.
- Collaborate with other developers and application engineers on functional and I/O requirements, design of models and adaptation to user requirements.
Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
- 2 years of computational mechanics R&D experience
- Modeling of kinematics, multi-body dynamics, vibrations in powertrain and/or vehicle systems
- Hands-on experience with numerical algorithms commonly used for the solution of mechanical systems: Linear and non-linear equations, ODEs, DAEs
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) theory and applications
- Proficiency in Fortran, C++
- Minimum GPA 3.6
Additional Desirable Background and Skills
- Modeling of contact kinematics, tribology and hydrodynamic fluid film lubrication
- Familiarity with 3D solid modeling, CAD and graphics tools
- Technologies for enhancement of model performance and scalability, such as model reduction, sparse systems, parallelization
