Project Engineer: Electric Model Development

IL, USA

Gamma Technologies, LLC, established in 1994, is headquartered in Westmont, Illinois (a west suburb of Chicago). GT develops, markets, and sells an engineering simulation software, GT-SUITE, which is the software of choice for more than 600 leading corporations worldwide, including Mercedes, BMW, VW, Toyota, Nissan, GM and Ford.

Position Summary:
We are looking for a creative, talented and self-starting application engineer to join our Support and Applications Group to help our customers get the most out of our software and to leverage the knowledge learned from these interactions to continuously improve our software. Gamma Technologies develops GT-SUITE, a sophisticated desktop software package for simulating almost any kind of engineering multi-physics system, such as those arising in the automotive, aerospace and other industries, involving fluid, thermal, mechanical, acoustics, electromagnetics, chemistry and controls elements. It also utilizes a sophisticated set of user interfaces including map-based and 3D-based pre- and post-processors.
You would join our software developer group whose focus is on modeling of electrical systems and components, electronics and electromagnetics, for application to any engineering system, including hybrid and electric vehicles, motors, batteries, actuators, and other similar components.

Job Responsibilities:
• Develop, test and maintain advanced mathematical models of electrical, electronic and electromagnetic components and systems, hybrid or electric vehicle powertrain components such as electric machines, batteries, as well as controllers and circuitry for component and supervisory control of electrified powertrains.
• Close collaboration with other developers in the context of integrated transient simulations of complete systems that include other physical domains such as mechanical and thermal, as well as system control.
• Collaborate with application engineers on functional and I/O requirements and design of models. Adaptation of models to user requirements aimed at addressing today’s important issues in powertrain and vehicle electrification.

Essential Qualifications:

• MS or equivalent in electrical engineering with minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0
• 2 years of electrical circuit, electric machine or battery computational model development experience, in industry or R&D setting
• Hands-on experience with numerical algorithms commonly used for the solution of electrical systems: linear and non-linear equations, ODEs, DAEs
• Proficiency in Fortran or C/C++

Additional Qualifications Desired:
• Experience with electrical system simulation software such as GT-SUITE, SPICE, PLECS, or other CAE/simulation tool
• Experience with 3D modeling electromagnetics tools, such as ANSYS/Maxwell, or JMAG
• Experience with electric machine, battery, or electrical circuit modeling or design
• Experience with automotive electrical applications, including design, measurement and instrumentation, controls, SAE projects (Formula SAE, Electric Shell Eco-Marathon, EcoCAR, etc.)

Salary and Benefits:

Gamma Technologies offers competitive pay, full health benefits, vacation, sick and personal days, 401K with profit sharing, and a work environment that allows you to grow and prosper.
